In 2017, he began posting brief musical compositions to SoundCloud under the name “Jefnier” and became more interested in the music business. Lunay’s 2017 single “Aparentas” received thousands of downloads on this site and caught the attention of two of Puerto Rico’s top producers, Chris Jeday and Gaby Music.
In May 2018, both producers offered the young Puerto Rican a record deal; after accepting, he changed his stage name to Lunay. During the same month, he released “Si Te Vas Conmigo” and “Dejame Saber.” In the same year, he also released “A Solas” with Lyanno and “Como La Primera Vez” with Amarion.
The first YouTube collaboration between him and Ozuna, Rauw Alejandro, and Lyanno received millions of views. Anuel AA, Brytiago, and Alex Rose remixed “A Solas” towards the end of 2018, and it spent many days on YouTube’s Trending page.
His single “Soltera” was released in March 2019 and received more than five million YouTube views in just five days. Daddy Yankee and Bad Bunny remade the song as well.
The song was also included as a bonus track on Lil Mosey’s deluxe edition of his second studio album, Certified Hitmaker, which was released on August 5, 2020.
